Elayna’s 5 Ways to Create a Cosy Space for Winter

0|posted by Freedom New Zealand

Our very own Visual Manager Elayna Foster shares her tips on creating a the perfect cosy space for winter.

Winter provides us with enough darkness with all the dreary weather and greyness it brings us so this season. So I’m focussed on taking a new approach to styling my home for winter. Traditionally we tend to embrace darker colours but to retain that summery light as much as I can I’m creating a fresh, clean, calming space which will allow me to feel comfy and serene when I’m in the mood for cosying up and hibernating.

Here are my tips on keeping hold of the freshness of the warmer months while staying warm at home this winter season.

Your space and home just won’t feel comfy if it’s hard and cold so soften your home with lots of knits, furs and woven textures. There is nothing like snuggling into your couch or falling into a bed with luxurious furs and soft chunky knits when it’s cold and wet outside. I’m keeping things neutral at home and going with soft greys and whites to keep things bright and calm. Draping chunky grey knits over the sofa to easily grab at night and layering up my bed linen with thick velvet, cotton and linen textiles.

Burn candles on a dark afternoon and evening at home to create that soft and relaxing feeling. Candles with calming scents that are fresh always help provide my mind with a sense of clarity, perfect for days when I’m not brave enough to venture outside in the horrible weather. Fresh clean air always helps me to stay productive and positive.

Ecoya has a beautiful range of scents to silently soothe spaces; I can’t go past the limited edition ‘Celebration candle’ and its subtle clean scent.

Overhead lighting can be harsh .Switch out to table and floor lamps during the colder darker months to give your lounge a warm glow. Ensure you are using a soft toned light bulb to create that cosy atmosphere. Don’t just focus on the interior of your house, think about the garden and porch too. You could buy some cast iron lamp posts to greet your guests.

My favourite lamp of the season is the metro table lamp, also available in a gorgeous floor lamp too, perfect for showcasing a statement bulb and subtly lighting your lounge room.

Add warmth to your lounge, entrance ways and bedrooms underfoot with floor coverings. Runners and rugs are essential during the colder months for your home, and with the cold months coming up, it may be time to have a look online for some Luxury Rugs that could do wonders for your living room. Especially those like mine with wooden floors. Add extra texture to your space and define areas with a floor covering that is soft and sensual underfoot to welcome you home and encourage you to kick off your boots and relax into comfort.

I still love that metallic’s are continuing to be used as a strong decorating accent this season. Use rose gold and Copper to radiate warmth and add light to your rooms this winter. Lamps, vessels, candles, plates, baskets, bathroom accessories all work well to bounce light around rooms.

Chunky knits with flecks of gold are really striking a cord with me, Our ‘Gilt’ limited edition gold Multi spot cushion and the Gold Digger throw I cant wait to get my hands on to lend some light to my lounge.
